The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has decided that enough is enough. JPJ, together with the police, will be coming down hard on errant motorcyclists due to the intolerable high number of fatal accidents involving motorcyclists and pillion riders.
Motorcyclists who made illegal U-turns and who failed to stop at children's crossings will be made to pay a RM100 compound that is to be settled within two weeks. The fine will increase to RM250 after the fortnight period.
Fines for motorcyclists who park their machines next to fire hydrants, along pedestrian walkways and who hog the right lanes, now range between RM60 to RM100 that is also to be paid within two weeks. Failure in doing so will see it be increased to RM150 if payment of the fine is made within a month. Anything longer than that and it is RM250.
Penalty fees ranging from RM60 to RM120 will be slapped on errant motorcyclists for displaying modified registration plates, for failing to produce their licences for inspection and for failure to display “P” plates. A reduced compound of RM40 is however allowed if they settle the fine within two weeks. It will be reduced to only RM70 if payment is made within a month.
The jackpot, a maximum fine of RM300, will be for offences such as not wearing helmets, jumping red traffic lights, using mobile phones while riding, overtaking from the left, tailgating other motorists, speeding and not stopping at zebra crossings. A good move indeed by the local authorities. All these summonses will surely reduce the number of mat rempit and irresponsible motorcyclists all around the nation. Don't you think so too?
